Seed Starting - Born to Live

For anything to grow, literally and figuratively, you have to plant a seed

Starting seeds

Starting seeds is easier than you think. Seeds just need someplace to call home and something to fill the home with. A seeds home can be a specifically designed seed starting tray, a recycled pot from another plant, a yogurt cup, an egg carton, the possibilities are endless. Next, you need something to fill that selected home with. A specially formulated seed starting mix, indoor potting soil, home-made soilless medium are the best options. Soil from your garden bed outside is not a good choice. Using your outdoor soil can introduce unwanted pests into your home.

Once you have your seeds home and it’s contents, just follow the instructions on your seed packet. The conditions for you seed to sprout and flourish vary widely. Some seeds are pressed into the top of the soil and not covered. Others are covered with 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch of soil. Still others should be refrigerated or soaked before planting. Whatever the case for your seeds is, follow the instructions and you will be successful.

Time To Wake Up

You got your seed’s home and its contents together. You followed the instructions. You checked on them every day; day one, nothing, day two, nothing, day three, nothing… Now you are wondering if you did something wrong. Maybe the seeds I got were bad. Did I leave them in the car too long? Did I let them get too hot, too cold? The doubts run rampant until one day, you check on them again and you see a speck of green coming from the spot where you planted the seed. WooHoo!!! time to celebrate, my seeds have germinated. Congratulations, you are well on your way to having beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables.
